Postpartum Pelvic Floor Support in Derry and Donegal
You have spent months putting your baby first. Your recovery deserves attention too. If leaks, weakness or worry about returning to exercise are holding you back, start with a private postnatal pelvic-floor consultation at The Restore Clinic in Derry.
If you are searching for postpartum pelvic-floor support or postpartum physio in Derry, the first step is understanding what kind of help you actually need. The Restore Clinic is not a physiotherapy practice, but it can provide non-invasive pelvic-floor chair sessions where appropriate and will signpost you to a women’s-health physiotherapist or doctor when specialist assessment is the better route.
Common postnatal pelvic-floor concerns
- Leaking urine when coughing, sneezing, lifting or running.
- A sudden or difficult-to-control urge to urinate.
- Reduced awareness of the pelvic-floor muscles.
- A feeling of heaviness, pressure or bulging.
- Bowel-control changes.
- Pain, scar discomfort or pain during sex.
- Worry about returning to exercise.
RCOG advises beginning gentle pelvic-floor exercises as soon as you comfortably can after birth. The starting level will be different for everyone, especially following a tear, episiotomy, assisted delivery, caesarean birth or a difficult recovery.
When is physiotherapy particularly important?
A pelvic-health physiotherapist can assess strength, coordination, tension, scar tissue, breathing and movement. Seek specialist advice if you have pain, heaviness or suspected prolapse, difficulty emptying your bladder or bowel, significant tearing, persistent leakage, or uncertainty about returning to impact exercise.
Do not use a device or begin demanding exercise simply because a set number of weeks has passed. Medical clearance and individual assessment matter.
What about the Ultra Tesla chair?
The Ultra Tesla chair uses electromagnetic stimulation to activate the pelvic-floor muscles while you remain fully clothed. There is no internal procedure. Following screening, it may be considered by some postnatal clients who want additional support with pelvic-floor activation and strengthening.
It is not suitable during pregnancy, and timing after birth depends on healing, symptoms, medical history and the device’s contraindications. We’ll discuss this carefully before any session.
Returning to exercise with confidence
Build gradually. Walking, breathing work and appropriately scaled strength exercises may come before running, jumping or heavy lifting. Leakage, pain or heaviness during exercise are signals to pause and seek guidance—not proof that you have failed.
